If you have this type of passion, we invite you to take a look at the opportunities available to come join our team.HPC GPU Field Application Engineer (FAE)The Role:We are looking for our next team member to join our growing HPC Centre of Excellence (HPC COE), to provide application performance, systems expertise, mentorship, and overall project leadership to our internal teams and external partners and customers. A ‘hands-on’ engineering role working independently and with other AMD engineers to tackle technical HPC performance issues, collaborating with our customer-facing Field Application Engineering and Sales colleagues, HPC Working Group, and other key engineering groups. Working across a variety of customers on the design and performance of the world’s largest HPC systems, making significant impact at a global level. Growing the success and market penetration of the AMD GPU as it applies to HPC. With a strong leadership emphasis on the ability to take the lead on projects, to coach less experienced engineers, prioritize incoming requests, provide effective and timely communication to partners, and to lead deliverables from contingent teams internally.The Person:Does this sound like you? We’d love to speak with you!* Strong combination of both technical and customer-facing skills* Excellent verbal and written communication, able to clearly demonstrate application expertise in GPUs for HPC, write technical documents and communicate at an appropriate level depending on the audience (e.g. developers or commercial managers)* Ability to build excellent relationships internally and externally* Able to prioritize, technically lead, and fully own multiple assigned projects, and to drive requirements, timely execution, from dependent teams (both internally and externally)Key Responsibilities:* Position AMD Radeon Mi-architecture with customers and partners through technical meetings, ongoing consultations, and performing ‘hands-on’ Proof of Concepts in porting code.* Perform POCs by characterizing current code/kernels and porting to Mi-architecture to deliver competitive performance on AMD GPU architecture* Understand the competitive landscape, both price and performance, of AMD and competitor solutions for both CPU and GPU* Establish mechanisms to project performance onto future GPU solutions* Occasionally support CPU-only opportunities* Completely own and manage the technical engagement, lead technical meetings, set achievements and timelines; communicate effectively with partners, customers, and across AMD* Through constructive feedback, bug reporting and documentation across technical teams within AMD, shape product development and priorities* Provide support to our Field Application Engineers and Sales teams during the sales cycle when the customer requires a deeper level of expertise* Be a route into AMD engineering teams: technically owning and resolving issues. Use of low-level engineering toolsets for greater understanding of performance bottlenecks. Submitting JIRA tickets and driving resolution.* Automate repeatable procedures, and document and publish performance results and procedures you have generatedTravel expectations once the Covid-19 pandemic subsides:Role is based in the USA with ~20% travel to other HPC Centers, customers, partners and relevant conferences both within North America, Europe and Asia. Plus some travel to India to work with our compiler and library teams.Preferred Experience:* 3+ years CUDA and/or OpenACC experience developing HPC codes on GPUs, profiling and inspecting code for greater optimization* Expertise in compiling large codes from source, with appropriately linked math libraries and flag optimization* Proven understanding of baseline testing of synthetic codes: HPL, STREAM, DGEMM, HPCG, HPCC* Knowledge of impact of system level hardware and its configuration/impact on performance* Some Linux administration; understanding configuration for HPC middlewareIf you’ve worked within these technologies, would be a PLUS.* Proven track record (5+ years) in HPC application experience* OpenMP* Very large codes such as weather/climate and associated tuning for greater scalability* Understanding/inspecting/writing assembly* Memory and cache hierarchy and methods to query performance/latency at each level* HPC dataflow down to the register-levelAcademic Credentials:Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (computer science, electrical engineering, physics, mathematics)Location:United States#LI-KH1Requisition Number: 81220Country: United States State: Texas City: AustinJob Function: Field Application Engineering/ Field SupAMD does not accept unsolicited resumes from headhunters, recruitment agencies or fee based recruitment services.
