The Process Technology and Sourcing (PTS) Team for LZA Small Molecules is in need of a Process Development Engineer. The Small Molecule Team manages over 200 different intermediates and operates in support of our global manufacturing network, including manufacturing locations in the USA, France, Germany, India, and others. Process Development Engineers work in the Wickliffe Pilot Plant and are primarily responsible for scaling up new products as well as ongoing support/improvement of existing products and processes. Duties, Responsibilities – Learn Small Molecule chemistry and apply knowledge to all projects – Establish/Utilize working contacts with Chemical Synthesis (R & D), Production, and Business Segments – Lead multi-functional teams with a wide variety of experience and background – Develop and execute experimental designs to investigate processing problems or improvements – Plan pilot scale experiments with effective use of time and available resources – Write pilot-scale batch sheets, closely follow batches in progress, and fully evaluate batch results – Provide on-site or on-call support outside of normal working hours, as needed – Present project status updates and clearly communicate goals, progress, and results – Plan, organize, and support manufacturing trials – Provide support for economic justification of capital projects and process improvements – Author technical reports with full documentation of product development activities – Write technology transfer reports for manufacture of Small Molecule components at manufacturing plants – Comply with applicable internal and external health, safety, and environmental policies – Some domestic and international travel required, depending on the projects assigned Skills, Qualifications, Experience, Special Requirements – Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from an accredited college or university – Excellent interpersonal and communication skills – Self-starter with ability to manage multiple projects – Background with experimental design and data analysis – Strong technical writing skills Considered a Plus – Experience in pilot-scale or commercial-scale process engineering – Experience in a commercial manufacturing facility involving both batch and continuous systems – Experience in manufacturing scale filtration – Familiarity with business management software (SAP) – Familiarity with technical software (PI ProcessBook, Statgraphics, VBA, Aspen or other process simulation tools) – Strong Excel, PowerPoint, and/or SharePoint skills While headquartered in the United States, Lubrizol is truly a global specialty chemical company.
